How to Install and Operate Spybot Search and Destroy

Download Spybot from www.jrtechsupport.com/ssadd.php and install it. When you open it up it will take you through a step by step process to set it up.

Spybot Search and Destroy is a little higher maintenance than Avast as it does not automatically update. Always make it a point to update Spybot Search and Destroy at least once a week. First, make sure you are connected to the internet, if you have Comcast or Qwest you do not have to worry about this. Then go to "Start-> Programs->Spybot Search and Destroy->Update Spybot" and click on "Search". Choose a website that is in the USA by looking at the location inside the "( )" after the website. Then click on "Next". Make sure all the boxes are cheked and click on "Download". After downloading the updates click on the exit button. Now you need to immunize. Here's how: Double click on the Spybot Search and Destroy icon on your desktop. When Spybot has loaded click on the big shield on the left side of the window. Once the button that has a plus sign and says "immunize" has color press it. Once immunization is complete it will tell you. Now you can exit Spybot.

There is also another part of Spybot called Tea Timer. It adds an extra level of protection to your computer. If it pops up whenever you open or close a program allow the change. If it just pops up while you are on the internet and you are not installing anything deny the change.

Please note that Spybot Search and Destroy is not a complete solution in and of itself. I also recommend installing Avast! Antivirus as well.
